Foley catheter urinary catheter is used in departments of urology, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, and gynecology for drainage of urine and medication.

It is also used for patients suffering form moving with difficulty or being completely bed-ridden.

The valve of a urinary catheter is generally divided into two types: a hard valve and a soft valve. The hard valve is a plastic valve, while the soft valve is a latex valve. The hard valve responds sensitively, and when inserting or removing the syringe, the action should be quick and accurate to prevent leakage of sterile water. Since the soft valve has a latex structure and a softer valve body, it is important to ensure that the syringe is fully inserted into the valve body during deflation to avoid difficulty in drawing water. In addition, the soft valve should not be compressed during use. Compression can cause deformation of the valve body, leading to leakage of sterile water from the balloon and resulting in the catheter slipping out.

Latex Urinary Catheter is made of nature latex, and the surface of the catheter is coated with a layer of pure silicone for a better biocompatibility. The Latex Urinary Catheter has nelaton type, two-way type and three-way type structure.

Contraindication
Patients with serious urethritis, serious urethral stricture, acute prostatitis, suspected with blunt or penetrating trauma-related urethral rupture shall be prohibited to use.

  8. Catheterization process should be aseptic.
  9. For two-way catheter and three-way catheter, the balloon should be inflated with sterile water and the inflated water can't exceed the marked volume.
Directions for use
Two-way type and Three-way type (Foley catheter)
Prepare the catheter for patient use
1. Remove catheter from its sterile pouch using an aseptic technique visually inspect the catheter for any mechanical damage. If a trial inflation of the balloon is carried out ensure the balloon to insertion. Only sterile water should be used to fill the balloon.
Insert and remove the catheter

3. Check size and specification if it is correct, check the package and balloon whether they are damaged.
4. Inform patient to take a deep breath when insert the catheter. Before use of the product, wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
5. Connect the catheter with urine bag and release the foley catheter.
6. Disinfect the patient's perineum.
7. Choose right lubricant to lubricate the catheter.
8. Insert the foley catheter gently. When urine start comes out, insert 5cm~6cm more.
9. Inflate the balloon with appropriate volume sterile water, pull out the catheter gently.

Remove the catheter
1. Explain the procedure to the patient.
2. Before catheter removal, wash hands thoroughly with soap and water and wear clean gloves.
3. Position patient and place waterproof pad under patient.
4. To deflate catheter balloon: Push a syringe without needle into the valve. Back off luer lock or slip tip syringe to 0.5mL and insert into the inflation port. Allow the pressure within the balloon to force the plunger back and fill the syringe with water (if slow or no deflation is noticed, re-seat the syringe gently).Use only gentle aspiration to encourage deflation if needed as vigorous aspiration may collapse the inflation lumen, preventing balloon deflation.
5. If the balloon doesn't deflate and permitted by hospital protocol, the valve arm may be severed. If this fails, contact adequately trained professional for assistance, as directed by hospital protocol.
6. If balloon rupture occurs, care should be taken to assure that all balloon fragments have been removed from the patient.
7. Deflate the balloon by inserting the syringe into the inflation valve, close the catheter or urine bag and gently pull out the catheter.
